You're paying for foreign journalists to travel the USA and sample its wines, according to McClatchy Newspapers, which is reporting that the federal government picked up the tab for writers, photographers and others to participate in tastings at wineries in California and other parts of the country.

"Subsidized by the Agriculture Department and the wineries, the writers from Canada, Europe and Asia tour some of this country’s most renowned wine regions, and winemakers say their stories boost foreign sales," McClatchy says. "Lawmakers agree, and they want to increase funding in the new farm bill that senators will consider next week."
